A mother dances on the moon with her tiny infant daughter. They are happy.
The explosion of a cannon, shouting, marching, like thunder surrounds them.
The mother flees the moon and climbs down to earth where she hides her tiny baby in a stalk of bamboo.
"I’ll come back for you. One day when it’s safe," she said.
She returns to the moon leaving her child on earth, crying.
Bamboo Moon – The Tale of Princess Kaguya かぐや姫の物語, was a free community performance presented by Corrugated Iron Youth Arts in the George Brown Botanic Gardens on Thu 3rd – Sat 5th Aug 2017. The show encompassed elements of circus, physical theatre and traditional drama, and was performed by a young local cast.
The FREE family friendly performance was based on the traditional Japanese tale of the Bamboo Cutter’s Daughter.
Corrugated Iron acknowledges the essential support of the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens and the Community Benefit Fund in helping keep this event free for Darwin families.
