The Shak

RESIDENCIES


Based in the Northern suburb of Nightcliff, Corrugated Iron’s Indigenous Arts Program offers
- In-house workshops and productions in Nightcliff
- Term and/or project based outreach Residencies. Recent residencies have included:

  • Ongoing circus and arts training workshops with Bagot Community After School Program,
  • multi media tuition program with The Shak (drop in centre with Australian Red Cross), film projects with Danila Dilba – incorporating a mental health educational focus,
  • Hip Hop workshops with Palmerston YMCA
  • Drumming workshops with Knuckey’s Lagoon
  • Stop motion animation skills workshops with Gurdorrka community.

- Remote community based projects.

  • 2009 included the project This Story - a large project which travelled to four communities to support video literacy and help generate performance material unique to each community. Diversionary projects in four communities including Timber Creek, Gunbalunya, Oenpelli and Wadeye.

- and other local programs with linking events, for example; 

  • Moments Like Thesethis annual event celebrates Harmony Day and is produced by the Indigenous Arts Program with support from the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Artists venture into schools in the lead-up to run theatre-sports workshops working toward a final playoff between schools.
