“Tease is full of joys, laughs and excitement... It immerses the audience in a rich visual and audio experience.” Audience members 2010

Tease is an edgy and provocative assortment of dance, theatre, visual arts, comedy, multimedia and music presented and produced by Corrugated Iron and showcasing Darwin's best young and emerging artists. Last year’s season, also at Brown’s Mart, was a sell out each night and left audiences wanting more.

In 2011 performers will be presenting their own work – short ‘teasers’ they have been developing with creative director Alex Galeazzi. Highlights this year include a private eye, film noir style theatre piece, with a black comedy twist, a fusion of contemporary and classical Indian dance from Venaska Cheliah, talented young pianist Warren McGrath, a swarm of energetic dancers and Josie Baker storming up the theatre with her drag friends. In the Brown’s Mart courtyard, audiences will be treated to a vibrant and interactive visual arts spectacular from artist Sarah Pirrie.

TEASE 2010

A tempting assortment of dance, theatre, circus, visual arts, and music.
July 16 – 18
Browns Mart Theatre & Courtyard

Tease was a 3-night season that showcased a variety of live performances including dance (classical Indian, Break, Burlesque, Contemporary & Pole), theatre (stand up, comedy & drama shorts), live music (singer/songwriters & local bands), circus (meteor & acro), multi media design (projected visuals) and a fully interactive visual art component (paper based garden). Young emerging and established performers presented their own short works within the evening’s season show, and worked with professional creative team Alex Galeazzi and Jenelle Saunders to produce and create the cohesive program. Tease featured an outdoor interactive visual art installation in Browns Mart Courtyard the courtyard, The Paper Garden, and also collaborated with Brown’s Mart’s Blue Bar and original live music venue Happy Yess to present a full bodied performing arts experience for audiences. Tease emerged from Corrugated Iron’s 18 – 26 theatre ensemble who have been operating over the last few years to develop new performance works for local audiences.

Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge: The Stage Show

A delightful musical play about a boy, his older neighbours and a search for lost memories.
July 29 – 30
Darwin Entertainment Centre

Presented in partnership with Alzheimer’s Australia NT and the Lynx Project, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge was performed in the Darwin Entertainment Centre, including three daytime and two evening shows. The play was an adaptation of the charming story, by much-loved children’s author Mem Fox, about Wilfrid, a small boy who lives next door to an old peoples’ home. Wilfrid goes on a journey in search of the lost memories of his favourite neighbour, 96-year-old Miss Nancy. Conceived and directed by Merrilee Mills, with a lively and original score and a stellar cast of seasoned local actors Wilfrid delighted over 1200 audience members. Audiences of all ages laughed and cried as they journeyed with Wilfrid on his search to understand what a memory means to the people around him.

Inspired by the wonderful illustrations of Julie Vivas, the show’s production team, including puppet-maker Connor Fox, multimedia designer Tim Parish and sound designer, Mathew Cunliffe, created a magical world where memories and dreams mingled and were born anew. Ms Mills wrote and arranged new songs for the show, and the actors and dancers sang them live onstage.

Performers included: Ken Conway, Kay Brown, Liz Gammon, Peg Gellert, Todd Williams Kay Brown, young performers Ryen Archer & Luther Wilson as Wilfrid, Shaun Plumtree & Joseph Baronio (puppet operators) and The Grey Panthers- Tracks senior ladies dance troupe.

VORTEX

Step into a world where circus, music, theatre and technology swirl together
September 3 – 5
Charles Darwin University

Presented in collaboration with Charles Darwin University and new initiative the CDU Merge Project. Vortex was a free, theatrical concert for families and mixes together CDU musicians, Corrugated Iron’s circus performers, and special guests into a story involving a mad capped, unorthodox-scientist, a newly born burgeoning, swirling vortex fed by the harnessing of energy collected from a raft of unlikely performers hurtled onstage throughout the show. Vortex took place with a live sound track including reggae, classical guitar, heavy metal, pop, concert harp, and a large choral and vocals. Circus, acting, dance, clowning, visual projection and magic completed the show. Vortex emerged as a result of ongoing discussions between Corrugated Iron and CDU, focussing on creating more performance opportunities, and utilising the university’s extensive facilities and reinvigorating more on-campus activity and a more active university based arts culture.

Performer groups included: The Delusion crew (break & contemporary dance), cyclone circus, General circus class, body circus, The Vox Crocs, Cayn’s Plague, Room 105, Dudds crew (Darwin university drama and dance society), Lani Cooper, LMS (classical guitarists trio), Shaun Plumtree, Vanessa Sundstrup and Jamaica.
